I am pleased to share with you some valuable information about the Youngstown Air Reserve Base Community Council (YARBCC) and the crucial role it plays in supporting our airmen and airwomen at YARS. Our mission is centered around fostering a strong connection between the military base and the local community. Here are some key activities and initiatives that we undertake:
- Quarterly Membership Dinners: We organize regular dinners with YARS mission briefings and base updates. These gatherings allow our members to stay informed about the base’s activities and provide a platform for open communication.
- Outreach to Community Organizations: We actively engage with various community organizations to communicate and educate them about YARS’ mission and its significance. This helps create a sense of understanding and support for our military personnel.
- Mission Brief and Updates for Service Organizations: We deliver YARS mission briefs and updates to service organizations such as Rotary, Lions, and others. This ensures that these groups are aware of the base’s ongoing efforts and can extend their support as well.
- Financial Support for Airmen and Airwomen: We provide financial assistance to YARS Airmen and Airwomen who may be facing difficult circumstances. Our aim is to support them during challenging times and ensure their well-being.
- Financial Support for Family Events and Holiday Programs: We contribute financially to organizing family events and holiday programs for YARS personnel. These events strengthen the bond between the military families and the local community.
- Pilot-for-a-Day Activities: We organize special activities for children with life-altering illnesses, providing them with the opportunity to experience the role of a pilot for a day. These events bring joy and hope to these children and their families.
- Annual “5K on the Runway” Fundraiser: Our flagship event, the “5K on the Runway,” is held annually to raise funds for both the BCC and the Eastern Ohio Military Affairs Commission (EOMAC). It’s an enjoyable way for the community to come together and support our cause.
- Trips to Military Locations: We organize trips for our members and civic leaders to visit military facilities. These visits allow us to learn more about today’s military environment and fosters camaraderie among the airbase and the community.
- Support for Regional Chamber Events: We actively support and participate in various events organized by the Regional Chamber that focus on spotlighting YARS and military affairs. These events help create awareness about the base’s contributions and its importance to the region.
